Department of Business and Trade (DBT) announces Call for Input in relation to potential UK measures in response to US tariffs

This request for input asks for views from UK business on the potential impacts of any future UK tariffs in response to the US government’s recent tariff announcements. The government welcomes input from stakeholders that could be affected by any potential UK tariff measures.

DBT want to know what you think about the impacts that any future UK tariffs might have, if applied on US goods, in response to the US government’s recent tariff announcements. The information gathered will help the government to assess the scope and impacts of any UK tariff measures that could be applied. More detail can be found in the request for input. The government is engaging separately with affected industries and stakeholders, on the impacts of US tariffs.

To assist businesses in considering the impact of UK tariffs, the government has published a supporting indicative long list of US products, from which the government is most likely to draw in developing any future tariffs.

The government has developed the indicative long list of US products with the intention of identifying products where there would be a more limited impact on UK businesses and consumers. The inclusion of a product on this list does not mean that it will appear in any UK tariff response, should the UK choose to impose tariffs on US goods at all. More detail on this list can be found in the request for input.

This request for input closes at 11:59pm on 1 May 2025. The government cannot guarantee that responses received after this date will be considered.
